Enjoying a glass of wine or two in good company is one of my vices. But due to… ehm… overindulging in sweet white wines when I first started drinking alcohol I tend to stick to red wine. Every now and then a friend will pour me a glass of white wine, and I am realizing that I might have been missing out. So, my newest mission is to start exploring white wines, and I am starting with the kind that can make a warm summer evening on the balcony even more enjoyable
My first step was to ask my knowledgeable friends on Twitter which white wines they would recommend. And as you see they know their stuff!
- The Spanish Quarter 2006 Chardonnay – Albarino (@ChefVanda)
- Sancerres (from Loire valley) http://bit.ly/n10UL (@edibleCville)
- pinot grigio or sav blanc (@cdkitchen)
- Gruner Veltliner, Riesling, Weisburgunder(Germany), Ripe CheninBlanc (@ailko)
- Pinot Grigio or an “off dry” Gewurztraminer! (@onceuponavine02)
- dry or off-dry Rieslings from Germany! Look for Mosel Kabinett, e.g. (@D_Rosengarten)
- riesling (@reluctantveggie)
- Fifth Leg Sauv Blanc (its Western Australian) (@KitchenDani)
- dry rose. Nice list from @PCC at http://bit.ly/XidjS – tried & like #2 & 3 (@khelde)
- Burgans Albarino (@thekeylime)
- vinho verde! (@womanwithawhisk)
- sparkling wines. Moet & Chandon makes some nice, light sparklers (@butnotforme)
- Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc (@foodalogue)
- Australian or NZ whites (@fionalaughton)
- ice cold reislings (@runhappy625)
- a crisp sauvignon, any Alsace wine (love it!), decent champagne, kir, chilled sherry, white port & soda! (@AFairCoop)
- most whites coming out of newzealand (@softlysoftly)
- any sauvignon blanc from Marlborough region (@anna_samara)
- prosseco (@tamarakong)
- Any vinho verde (@mbmartini)
- Crios de Susana Balbo Torrontes. http://digg.com/u16R02 (@erinwillis)
- New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is always nice, enjoyed a few nice Viognier blends recently as well. (@LovingLocalFood)
It will take me a good part of the summer to test out all these recommendations…
Nice list…look forward to your reviews. Don’t fall off the porch!

Don’t forget Spanish white wines from the Rueda region, I’ve never had one that disappointed.

Looks like you have a crazy amount of wine to try out! I would add Toad Hollow Chardonnay to your list. It is a deliciously crisp, refreshing chardonnay without the buttery heaviness many chards have these days. Good luck!
